Why Chi chose GFC
- By Chi Nguyen
I think being an adult doesn’t only come with the responsibility of taking care of myself but also taking care of others around me, whether it is my family, friends or just strangers in need. Personally, I have always had the drive to help children who have special needs. When I was attending a college back in my home country in Vietnam 6 years ago, I used to go to this facility for children with special needs every month with my peers. We spent the day with them, playing, studying, and helping the teachers with chores. With time, we formed a special bond and I realized children with special needs were no different from normal children. It just required a little more patience to get to know them and get them to express themselves. However, not everyone is aware of this, which is why it is important to have people who are willing to help the children and to spread the awareness.
I got to know the Giving Foundation for Children through one of my friends and I was drawn to the foundation particularly due to the humble beginning of it. It is fascinating to me how a little girl’s will to help her friend started such a giving foundation to others in similar situations. It makes me realize that help and kindness can start from any corner of life. You don’t have to go across the world to find people who need help; you can look around into your community and right at every corner help is needed.
My major in college was business management so ultimately I want to work in a business environment to improve my business skills and experiences. At the same time, I want to offer my help to those who need it while I can that was why I chose GFC. I want to both be able to familiarize myself with the business process and help children with special needs. GFC has offered me the opportunity to do so as their Management Assistant and I’m excited to put what I have learned into making it a stronger foundation that can help more people in the future.
